Book review: The Simpsons Handbook

Book review of the drawing book "The Simpsons Handbook". It's a how to draw the Simpsons main and support character book.

Today I want to talk about:

The Simpsons Handbook

Personaly I always like to see how other people create comics. The drawing style of the Simpsons is very famous but it’s not one of my favorites. I’m more a fan of the stories. The Simpsons are undenieable successful so why not learn from it. The Book “The Simpsons Handbook” is from 2007 and amazingly not complete in yellow.

The book is suitable for complete beginners. As expected there is only a minimal introduction and we start with drawing the main characters using simple examples. This includes facial expressions and body language. Besites the main cast, there are many of the supporting act available. But sadly not all of them. For example one important character is missing. Troy McClure! You may remember him from such films as: “Fuzzy Bunny’s Guide to You-Know-What”, “Dig Your Own Grave and Save” and “Lead Paint: Delicious But Deadly”. ;)

A nice little treat is at the end of the book where important locations of the series are given as templates complete with vanishing point. If you have some issues with perspective drawing, you can study the examples in 1, 2 and 3 point perspective complete in the style of the Simpsons.

Should you read this book? If you are a die hard fan of the Simpsons or an artist trying to broaden your horizont, this book is a must. It’s suitable for beginners and professionals.

I hope you have fun
